Six Fat Fighting Foods

Does it excite you that you can burn more fat just by eating certain foods? HECK YES! Here are six foods that will help you do just that!!

Avocados

If I could be in love with a food, undoubtedly it would be the avocado. This fruit is high in monounsaturated fats and in studies adding avocado into the diet has been proven to reduce LDL, the bad cholesterol. It is also packed with antioxidants which will help you fight off the aging process. Say what? A fruit that can help me lose weight and age slower? YES!! So next time you are at the grocery store, pickup this power fruit. Since it is high in fat, I like to eat ½ an avocado at a time. Add it to toast, salads, sandwiches, rice bowls, egg dishes, and just about anything! The healthy fat and fiber will help keep you fuller longer.

Hot peppers

I happen to love spicy foods so the fact that hot peppers help promote thermogenesis is a bonus! Thermogenesis is the rate at which your body burns fat. Hot peppers have a component capsaicin in them responsible for the boost in thermogenesis. Fat-fighting isn’t the only super cool effect of capsaicin. It’s also been shown to reduce cholesterol levels, keep blood sugar levels stable, and its anti-inflammatory properties can relieve arthritis joint pain. Now I’m not saying you have to start eating whole chili peppers (only if you like that kind of thing). Dice them up and add to chili, soups, veggies, and egg dishes.

Eggs

Ah, the incredible, edible egg. I rank eggs up there as one of the best foods you can consume for weight management. They are a staple in my diet and are budget friendly. I encourage you to buy organic or at least free range though. Otherwise you risk flooding your body with hormones given to the chickens. Eggs are low in calories and one large egg has approximately 70 calories. In a study published by the International Journal of Obesity, researchers found that dieters who consumed two eggs for breakfast five days out of the week lost 65 percent more weight than dieters who consumed a bagel in the morning. 65% more weight!! Eggs leave us satisfied due to the protein and fat content and no longer get a bad rap in the cholesterol debate. Since my daily breakfast is a smoothie made with vegan protein, I like to have my eggs mid-morning (meal #2). I typically combine 1 egg, 2 whites, ½ avocado and a slice of gluten free chia seed bread. Check out my 10 Day Reset program for more tips on exactly what I eat.

Nuts

I have a love/hate relationship with nuts. Unfortunately, my sensitive digestive system just can’t handle all nuts as tasty as I think they are. My go to nut that works with my body is the cashew nut. It has more than 4 grams of protein per ounce, and the monounsaturated fat helps keep you satiated. I typically get my cashew nuts in the form of cashew butter and spread it on my GF bread or mix in my oatmeal. It ain’t cheap like peanut butter my friends, but has more health benefits. Cashew butter is loaded with magnesium, which is necessary in your body to build strong bones.

Dark chocolate

YES! YES! YES! I must say when I found out that chocolate can actually help promote fat loose, I beamed from ear to ear! I have been obsessed with chocolate for as long as I can remember and I don’t plan on giving it up anytime soon. The weight lose benefits ONLY apply to dark chocolate though so for all my milk chocolate lovers out there, switch! The chocolate must be at least 70% cacao. Dark chocolate contains healthy fats, which slow the absorption of sugar into the blood stream. This helps prevent an insulin spike, which delivers sugar straight into your fat cells. Insulin spikes turn off your body’s fat-burning mechanisms and over time, they can lead to insulin resistance and diabetes. Add a square a day into your diet. My go to chocolate is the IsaDelight because it has green tea and amino acids added for further health benefits. You can even purchase them from my website.

Cinnamon

Feel like having cinnamon toast? Great! Cinnamon has been proven to control insulin levels, lower blood sugar, lower LDL cholesterol, and burn belly fat. Seriously, it’s like a magic spice and is so easy to use. Try adding cinnamon to your smoothies, oatmeal, toast, yogurt, and baked fruits. Cinnamon can also slow down the absorption process so you will feel fuller longer. Add this superfood to your grocery list and have fun experimenting with it.

So there you have it friends. Six fat fighting foods that are a staple in my diet. Happy new year and I’ll chat with you soon!

With love and respect,
Mindy Joy
